The current High school student unrest, Fact and fiction!
Related to country: Kenya

High school unrest is not a new phenominon in Kenya, not as far as I can remember. The parent who now talk so carelesly whenever there is media presence can equaly testify that even during their school days they did engage in unrest. Having said that let me put it clear from the outset that am not in anyway attempting to justify the indicipline that we have seen in our school recently. My point is that we seldom look for people to blame when we are faced with situation that is far from blame game stratergy and so often we employ the blame game stratergy wishing that things will just go away.
Recently I was so overtaken when I had a whole government official commenting that the unrest we are witnessing is because the student fear exams. I can testify here that when we were in school we used to anticipate the Mock exams and still I believe that lot of student do. I am trying to refute that claim in the ground that student fear exams yes but the fact is majority do like exams and study very hard for it. To my limited understandig exams does not surface anywhere near the recent unrest.
We do blame student most of the time forgetful of the fact that most of the administration in school consist of very old concervative individual who want to rule by rode forgeting that we are leaving in the 21st century where alot of information flow from one place to the other. Infact most of the student are very informed of the current situation around them than the hardcore school administration that is supposedly their guidence.
While many will be ready to blame the drug in school to the unrest, I take more analytical path, this is because I believe that drugs is necessitated by some factor and so it in itself not the end result. If student are taking drugs then they must have resort to such from a certain factor, it could be frastration and so forth. The point is let not blame, let find the source of the problem.

In my conclution and recomendation, I think we need an overhalt in our system of education and the fresh training for school administration on conflict management periodicaly couple with full representation of high school student body to oversee the problem and solve them. I believe that they are well informed enough and that call for dialoge between them and the concern Authority, I also understand that this approach will be unpopular to the parent who want their Kids to behave the same way they used to when they were studying. My massage is simple, We are in the 21st century and dealing must bend towards 21st century.
Thank you!
Nyakwar!

Youth and politics
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

I am one person who never believe in politics, while alot of people sees it as the only platform to adress socio-economic disadavantges, I see it as the only benchmark that derail the proper and effective process of adressing the same. often time, I have forwarded the aguemement that However much we feel that empowering some of our most disadvantage members of our beloved society thruogh politic and political post it does and to this end had been the derailing factor in achieving the most and best of us. Take for example the MDG which coutry are all pursuing to achieve, while the goals remain the best option to alliviate poverty, the poltics on each state has been hindrence to achieving that goal.

As I am now convince that politics are transitional and building upon them as foundation to achieve total freedom and equity is mare wastege of time. Every year politician run after the cooparate to fund there compaign and if only the capacity of coporate men and women can be enhance to outline growth agenda and equity withiout selfish motivation, then I still believe that the MDG will be achieved.
